REFUSE

Do not chew more than you can swallow, surely you have been told this before at some point in time… We are doing something worse to the planet, we are giving it something it cannot digest:

Plastic.

“We are living on the planet as if we have another one to go to.”

Terry Swearingen, Nurse.
American environmental activist, winner of the Goldman Prize, the “Nobel” of the environment.

REDUCE

Think before using plastic and act now, tomorrow is too late.

Plastic, Refuse it;

and if you cannot refuse it, then Reduce it, Reuse it or Recycle it.

“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do”.

Edward Everett Hale (1822-1909),
American author and clergyman.

REUSE & RECYCLE

You can be the one that invents a

“new plastic”,

one that is natural, one that does not pollute, one that adapts to the needs of our planet and then to our needs.

“The only way forward, if we are going to improve the quality of the environment, is to get everybody involved”.

Richard Rogers (1933-),
British architect.

SEEDS

For children up to 3 years old

As its name clearly states, this is where the contest begins. The participants of this group and their drawings are a gift for this contest.

This artist is the most unpredictable of all, we can talk to them about plastic, but they may want to draw a truck and that’s all right, let’s recognize the parts of the truck and its materials. The important thing here is for them to have fun while the message is being sent or some part of it gets through to them.

THINKERS

For children between 8 and 10 years old.

The vision of this group has much to offer, it is an age that still feeds on fantasies.

The best way to motivate and encourage this age range, is with a lot of questions, without expecting perfect answers, it is wonderful to make them reflect. Did you know that turtles can mistake plastic bags for jellyfish which happens to be their favorite food? Did you know that if we don’t make changes, soon there will be more plastic than fish in the sea?

GAME CHANGERS

For “young adults” between 11 and 15 years old

The ambassadors of change.

This group may use their drawings to generate a powerful message, either by proposing solutions or by exemplifying the problem. They clearly understand what it means to be environmentally conscious, but at the same time they are in need of more information, so research must be encouraged.

The learning center is a good starting point where you can find specially prepared information, which will guide you to continue researching and learning.
